On paper, the 12th
hole at Rouken Glen ought to be simple enough, and from
the yelow tee it often is. As with most of the par 4's here,
though, much depends on the quality of your first strike.
The best approach is to hit to the left of the green and
hope for a nice run in. Directly at the pin will leave a
lot down to your bounce (which is to say luck) on a fairway
that is typically damp and muddy nearer the green.
About 90% of drives that go down the middle or even slightly
right will end up harshly punished on the downward, left-to-right
slopes of the fairway. Problems on the right include an
almost guaranteed difficult lie, with an uphill approach
to a pin that is out of sight, medium rough, and a trench
to the more extreme right that often comes into play thanks
to the extreme pull of the slopes. |
